IVECO delivers 1,800,000th Daily built at Suzzara plant

IVECO is celebrating the milestone of 1,800,000 Daily produced at the Suzzara plant in Mantua, Italy. The landmark vehicle – an all-electric IVECO eDaily – is destined to join the Tesco delivery fleet as the supermarket continues its decarbonisation mission.

The new IVECO eDaily makes up part of the 571 electric home delivery vans Tesco has deployed and uses the innovative modular battery setup synonymous with eDaily to optimise payload and range. These two-battery vehicles are capable of rapid charging at 80kW, adding 62 miles of range in just 30 minutes, while a 22kW onboard charger enables Tesco to maximise charging from AC chargers at local stores.

A refrigerated Solomon Commercials body takes advantage of 15kW of ePTO onboard power to cool perishable goods while on delivery missions. A second 12V e-PTO provides low-voltage power for additional cooling fromthe GAH Transport Refrigeration fridge, creating a totally self-sustaining zero-emissions vehicle.

Rob Smallwood, Fleet Manager at Tesco said: “We’ve committed to moving towards a fully electric home delivery fleet across the UK by 2030. Taking delivery of IVECO’s 1,800,000th eDaily will help us get closer towards reaching our commitment to be carbon neutral in our own operations by 2035.”

Known as the home of the IVECO Daily, the Suzzara facility has gained a reputation for excellence in light vehicle manufacturing. This pioneering vehicle has continuously reinvented itself, introducing many groundbreaking innovations and industry-firsts while remaining true to its original DNA.

With its exceptional versatility, the Daily perfectly matches the specific requirements of customers, whatever their mission. It has built its enduring success in the market on these unique strengths, leading the high-payload segment with the 7-tonne model and serving as a benchmark in the natural gas light commercial vehicle sector.

The Daily has now further consolidated its position as a leader in sustainable transportation solutions by becoming fully electric across its entire line-up. Like all IVECO eDaily models, this historic vehicle was built inSuzzara and electrified at the Brescia plant.

Fulvio Carillo, IVECO Suzzara Plant Manager, stated: “The milestone achieved testifies to the success of ourDaily, a vehicle produced at our Suzzara plant for over 45 years. The IVECO Daily has continuously introduced innovations in on-board technology and in-cabin functionality, as well as expanding its portfolio of services enabled by advanced connectivity, to make the Daily the ideal partner for every customer, covering every mission. Since 2007 the plant works to a specific production system that aims for zero faults, wastage and accidents. It involves a process of continuous development, focused on involving every individual operator in the production process.

Mike Cutts, IVECO Business Line Director Full Range UK & ROI said: “This is a fantastic achievement for IVECO Daily, and one that highlights how this mission-focused vehicle is delivering for its operators. Tesco has been along standing Daily customer, with a new fleet of eDaily providing the same mission capability without compromise.”
