Call for More Security for HGV Drivers

Increasingly, drivers are at risk of freight crime, with thousands of incidents being reported each year, reports the Road Haulage Association.

The RHA say that cargo theft is as bad as it’s been. “To address this, it’s crucial that drivers have access to better and more secure roadside facilities if they’re to effectively carry out their role,” RHA Public Affairs Manager, Ashton Cull said, speaking to BBC Essex on the growing issue of freight crime.

“Freight crime often goes unseen and under reported. We need better police engagement in actively tackling freight crime and we need more safe and secure parking facilities in place. That means, more truck-stops being built with stronger security to help raise the security standards across the country.

“We need to look after our drivers and must support them to make sure they can do the vital job we need them to do.”
